# Naut Protocol: A Multi-Agent Consensus System for Decentralized Security Validation

--- **Abstract:** A purely peer-to-peer multi-agent intelligence network allows security validations to be performed through distributed consensus without relying on centralized authorities. We propose a solution to the oracle problem in security monitoring using a weighted Byzantine fault-tolerant consensus mechanism among heterogeneous AI agents. The protocol enables real-time threat detection and response coordination through cryptographically signed agent communications, with decisions recorded on an immutable event chain. By requiring agreement among specialized agents before security actions, we create a system resistant to single points of failure while maintaining sub-second response times. ## 1. Introduction Security monitoring in distributed systems has long relied on centralized authorities that represent single points of failure and trust. While cryptographic protocols secure the underlying infrastructure, the detection and response to threats remains largely centralized, creating vulnerabilities that sophisticated attackers exploit. What is needed is a decentralized security validation system based on cryptographic proof instead of trust, allowing multiple independent agents to reach consensus on threat detection without requiring a trusted third party. Transactions and events are computationally validated by a network of specialized AI agents, with the consensus of these agents determining the appropriate response. In this paper, we propose a solution using a multi-agent consensus network. The agents analyze events in parallel, form weighted consensus based on specialized expertise, and coordinate responses through a deterministic protocol. We describe the consensus mechanism, the agent communication protocol, and the probabilistic guarantees of security. ## 2. Agent Network Architecture We define an electronic security validation as a chain of agent signatures. Each agent in the network possesses specialized capabilities and maintains its own view of the system state. Conclusion We have proposed a system for decentralized security validation without relying on trusted authorities. The protocol began with agent signatures providing cryptographic proof of analysis. We showed how agents can reach Byzantine fault-tolerant consensus on security events, with the weight of each agent's opinion determined by its specialization and historical accuracy. The system provides strong probabilistic guarantees: an attacker would need to compromise more than one-third of the network's computational power to successfully bypass security validations. As long as honest agents collectively control more computational resources than attackers, security decisions remain valid. The protocol is robust in that agents can join and leave the network at will, and consensus can still be reached as long as sufficient agents participate. Messages are authenticated but need not be encrypted, as the protocol operates on public security signals rather than private data.
